Analyzed Competitors/Partners

Virtools

VR4Max
Arena

Virtools

Virtools – French company focused on developing 3D tools for general VR use, most applications are targeted broadly in the visualization, VR and entertainment and architecture area. Market approach does not seem focused as they are trying to do games and entertainment at the some time. They have no specific software solution for IPCM and we have only met them competitively in the architecture area. Future seems uncertain – they were sold to Dassault by their Venture Capital firm earlier this year as the company was not profitable. Most likely the software will be restricted from supporting competing CAD formats (such as UGS, Pro/E etc which will become a major limitation. Major Global 1000 prefer a CAD neutral IPCM solution..

1. Software & Applications
Virtools do not have any specific Software & Applications for IPCM such as EON Sales assistant and EON Planner. They only provide generic 3D authoring tools for a “a wide range of addictive games, virtual reality /simulations applications” (quote from web site). It would take them significant time, minimum 2 to 3 years to catch up IF they had the resources and changed their strategy today. This is not likely to happen. After the Dassault acquisition it is more likely that they will focus on design and engineering visualization rather than CRM sales & marketing area (This market is owned by SAP, Oracle/Siebel etc) as Dassault has no offering or strong customer references in the CRM/IPCM space.

2. Projects and Proven Customer Implementations
They provide the 3D tools only and do not have access to large IPCM projects for outsourcing such as EON. They have limited track record in full commercial implementations as they focus on early adopter 3D software sales and traditional VR customers.

3. Technical 3D Features
Limited Technical Features for Interactive 3D Authoring Tool compared with EON. Virtools delivers only the software - they do not have a turn-key solution which often can result in lack of accountability and less than an optimal total experience from an end user's perspective. Our technical evaluations shows that the user friendliness is poor in Virtools as:
a. EON works on a much higher level than Virtools (one command in EON translates to many lower level detailed commands in Virtool)
b. EON uses Windows standard user interface common with other programs, while Virtools uses its own French version. Difficult to learn and unfamiliar.
Viewer scalability is limited in Virtools - you have two different paths of viewers / tool environment, depending on whether you do VR or web. This mean that if you develop an application for the web it does not work automatically in the CAVE ( a lot of additional work required)
Can not provide high visual quality CG effects and stereo at the same time because they use a direct 3D which cannot cope with CG eg: in Open GL
4. Company Performance & Management team
Difficult to be precise as company is only a small division of Dassault and figures are not published. Estimated Sales: Less than US$6 million operating under loss. Management has experience in 3D & VR but lack customer focused Industrial implementation experience of IPCM.
Right Hemisphere

Right Hemisphere - Right Hemisphere is an EON Partner not a competitor; US company with their core R&D in Auckland, New Zealand. They focus mainly on translating 2D and 3D and CAD formats as a enterprise software for Technical Publications and Interactive Training Courseware. They have no specific software solution for IPCM and we have not met them competitively in the IPCM area.

1. Software & Applications
Right Hemisphere do not have any specific Software & Applications for IPCM such as EON Sales assistant and EON Planner. They only provide the translation tools that Integrate CAD/PDM and publishing applications but lack the sales and planning oriented features such as financial estimation engine, sales performance tracking, quote and customized brochure . It would take them significant time minimum 2 to 3 years to catch up IF they changed their strategy today and assuming they allocated significant resources. As they are rather focused on
Integrate CAD/PDM and have EON as a target customer for their component tools it is rather unlikely that they enter the IPCM space.

2. Projects and Proven Customer Implementations
They provide the 3D tools only and do not have access to large IPCM projects for outsourcing such as EON. They have lno track record in full Commercial implementations of IPCM projects.

3. Technical 3D Features
Limited Technical Features for Interactive 3D Authoring Tool compared with EON as they focus on CAD/PLM integrations. Right Hemisphere delivers only the software - they do not have a turn-key solution.

4. Company Performance & Management team
Difficult to be precise as company is privately held. Estimated Sales: US$ 5 million. Management has experience in software business but lack experience in IPCM.
Viewpoint

Viewpoint - The Viewpoint provides visual experiences on the Web so called web 3D. They have no specific software solution for IPCM and we have met them competitively only in the web space. They have a separate service division that is interested in IPCM using EON instead of their own software. They admit that their own tools lack the IPCM features and can not produce high end visual solutions for larger display formats.

1. Software & Applications
Viewpoint do not have any specific Software & Applications for IPCM such as EON Sales assistant and EON Planner. They are focused on web based marketing solutions and but lack the sales and planning oriented features such as financial estimation engine, sales performance tracking, quote and customized brochure . It would take them significant time minimum 3 years to catch up IF they changed their strategy today and assuming they allocated significant resources. As they are rather focused on the web and visual search engine arena it is very unlikely that they will successfully compete with EON in IPCM.

2. Projects and Proven Customer Implementations
They provide the 3D tools and do have access to some web projects for their own service division that contributes significantly to the revenues. They have track record in web commercial implementations but not in large scale IPCM projects that require back end integration.

3. Technical 3D Features
Limited Technical Features for Interactive 3D Authoring Tool compared with EON as they focus on web 3D.
The software cannot be used with any immersive displays, supports only software rendering which provide low visual quality, cannot take advantage of the graphics cards, very limited capabilities to import multiple CAD format, cannot use advance shaders due to software rendering. They do not have dynamic loading which limits the file sizes and they do not have a non-programming, easy to use graphic user interface.

4. Company Performance & Management team
Public Company Estimated Sales: US$13.5 million but only approx US$4 m are web 3D related. Management has experience in software business but lack experience of IPCM.

VR4Max

VR4Max - a 3d Max plug in software with no focus or advanced features in IPCM. VR4MAX® (pronounced as 'VR for MAX') is a low end real-time interactive virtual reality environment to distribute 3ds max and Autodesk VIZ designs. Market approach is limited to the Max community. The tool has very limited capabilities and has no specific software solution for IPCM and we have only met them (and successfully competed with them) in the architecture area with our correspondent product EON Raptor. EON Raptor is our ultimate plug-in for Discreet 3ds max and Autodesk VIZ for fast real-time viewing of large models and rapid creation of interactive content for the Internet. We believe that this market is limited as major Global 1000 have today their data stored in traditional CAD tools and that they require full IPCM that VR4Max lacks.

1. Software & Applications
VR4Max do not have any specific Software & Applications for IPCM such as EON Sales assistant and EON Planner. They only provide a very limited 3D authoring tools for max users.

2. Projects and Proven Customer Implementations
They provide the 3D tools only and do not have access to large IPCM projects for outsourcing such as EON. They no track record in IPCM implementations (from what we can see) as they focus on traditional VR customers and Max users.

3. Technical 3D Features
Limited Technical Features for Interactive 3D Authoring Tool compared with EON. VR4Max delivers only the software - they do not have a turn-key solution. Their limited features are not addressing the needs of the IPCM market.

4. Company Performance & Management team
Difficult to be precise as company is privately held by Tree C a small Dutch company.
Arena

Arena is not a competitor to EON but could be a potential partner as Oracle and SAP. Arena Solutions are a low cost on–demand Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software positioning companies of smaller size to implement PLM best practices with a subscription–based delivery model. Arena PLM Workgroup Edition targets to offer PLM to early–stage companies, small teams, and people curious about trying PLM for the first time.
